of the

PAUL SMITH’S COLLEGE

EMERGENCY WILDERNESS RESPONSE TEAM

Adopted 11.7.2001 
 

We, the members of the Paul Smith’s College Emergency Wilderness Response Team, declare that the mission of this organization is to form and maintain a trained group of personnel that will aid and assist government agencies and the community in search, rescue, and local fire suppression emergencies. 
 

Article I

Organization Name 
 

Sec. 1; The name of this organization established under this constitution shall be the Paul Smith’s College Emergency Wilderness Response Team. 
 

Article II

Membership 
 

Sec. 1; All students are welcome to become members of this organization.  However, new members will have to complete al required training before being qualified to take part in any search, rescue, or fire suppression emergency.

In addition to be qualified for one (1) week waiver from classes, the members must make prior arrangements with all instructors. *[Special considerations block programs.] 
 

Sec. 2; Students must be members of the organization to participate in any organizational activities. 
 

Sec. 3; The organization must be represented and supported in a professional manner by each member at all times. 
 

Sec. 4; There will be an annual membership dues of five (5) dollars from each member per semester.  Each member will be responsible for owning and carrying their own equipment.  Fees for certain training and food will be provided through the organization.. 
 

Sec. 5; There will be certain members who do not wish to participate in the organization but, do not wish, for whatever reason, to participate in an actual mission.  These people will include those persons on medical leave due to illness or injury.  These people will still have all benefits open to them at the discretion of the officers and executive officers.  They are still responsible to attend all meetings, training and mission briefings.  These persons will be registered as Non-Search Personnel. 
 
 
 
 

Article III

Officers 
 

Sec. 1; The officers of this organization that consist of the following;

Captain (President)

Senior Lieutenant (Vice-President)

Communications

Treasurer

Training Officer

Student Government Representative

On Campus Safety

Chief Executive (Advisor) 
 

Sec. 2; The Chief Executive is at the top authority of the organization in charge of training and discipline.  The Assistant Executive(s) are responsible for dealings inside the administration. 
 

Sec.3; The Captain (President), Lieutenant (Vice-President), Secretary, and Treasurer shall be voted into office by democratic ballot. 
 

Sec. 4; Any organizational officer may be relieved of their duties at any time as deemed necessary by the executive officers. 
 

Sec. 5; Any member may be relieved from the organization for any unprofessional behaviors above and beyond the organization or insubordination during an organizational activity. 
 

Sec. 6; Any dismissed member must return all relevant materials to the organization or further action will be taken. 
 

Sec. 7; Committees will be formed under the supervision of the officers and executives the duties associated with the organization. (Ex. Fund-raising, Equipment procurement and maintenance)

RULES AND REGULATIONS 
 

These Rules and Regulations will be in effect as of: 
 

1. Regardless it on a mission, in training, or regular hours, everyone is expected to act professional and represent the Organization in a professional manner at all times. 
 

2. Absences exceeding three (3) meeting per semester are unacceptable, unless pre-approved by an executive officer or the Captain (President). 
 

3. Absence from planned organizational activities, voluntary or assigned, must be pre-approved by the executive officers, Captain, or Lieutenant.  If there is a conflict, let us know!!! 
 

4. Attendance at drills/training and missions by all members is expected.  A member who is absent in excess of 25% of the drills/training and missions must appeal for reinstatement at the first regularly scheduled meeting before the general membership during the semester. 
 

5. When on any organization activity the Captain is in charge, insubordination will not be tolerated.  If in doubt, ASK.  Do not assume.  If a conflict arises, an executive hearing council of all executive officers and organization officers will be formulated in a diplomatic manner to resolve such matters. 
 

6. The ultimate goal of this Organization is to help others in need.  BE PREPARED!!! 
 

7. Make an effort to remain active. 
 

8. Discipline will be left up to the executive officers and organization officers.  If there is a conflict follow the chain of command.  The determination of suspension and its length of time, dismissal from position or expulsion will be determined by the appropriate officer.
